CHIMPANZEE TRACKING.
This activity starts from the UWA offices located 36km from the city where you are briefed by the Park Ranger and go on Chimpanzee trails for Normal Tracking activities, it takes 3 hours and for the Habituation it takes 5-6 hrs. (Tickets are paid for in advance at the UWA offices in Kampala and cost 200 USD/ person normal tkt and 250 USD/person for Habituation experience). Have lunch at lake Nukaruba and see the groups of black and white Columbus or red tailed monkeys. Take a forest walk or a short hike to “The top of the World” which on a clear day will give you a view of Three crater lakes, Kibale National Park, the Rwenzori lower ranges, Queen Elizabeth National Park as well as Fort Portal city center. From here you can visit more crater lakes as you head towards Mahoma water falls(Which is fed by the first Glacier lake in the Rwenzori Mountains.
SEMULIKI HOT SPRINGS.
Drive 50km through the western Rift Valley, Rwenzori Mountain lower ranges as you enjoy the breath taking views of the natural landscape to the hot springs. Immerse yourselves in the beauty of nature where you’ll explore the Female and Male hot springs where you’ll experience boiling eggs and walk through nature as you enjoy the wild life. NOTE; these hot springs are too hot and don’t permit swimming. Should you wish to swim in the hot springs, drive 2 hours to Kasese Kiwa heritage Hot springs.
You can set off from the hotel at 6:00AM, drive 90km to the equator then to the park entrance, enjoy the view of Lake George, Kikongo and the beautiful view of the Park. Here you’ll have a chance to track the “Big four” including Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Cape Buffaloes. The game drive fees can be paid at the park entrance which you’ll reach at 8:00AM. The activity takes about 4-5 hours. Breakfast can be had from Kasenyi, Lunch can be had after the game drive from the restaurants in Kazinga channel after which you can go to kazinga channel for a boat cruise for 2 hours covering 41km starting at 2:00PM ending at 4:00PM. The boat safari will give you a chance to spot water animals including Hippos, Buffalos, African Elephants, Crocodiles, Nile Monitor lizards. You’ll also spot some other land mammals like Hyenas, Bush Backs, Water Backs, Warthogs, Push pigs etc. For Birders, expect some immigrant birds from your country. At around 4:00PM, you’ll be done with your day activities and you can drive back to the hotel or otherwise.

RWENZORI MT NATIONAL PARK DAY HIKE(1645-3000M ASL)
Central Circuit Trail to Lake Mahoma. A private tour guide picks you up at 6:40Am and drive 80km to Rwenzori Mt National Park, do registration and wait for briefing from the Park Rangers. At around 9:00AM, the hike starts moving through different vegetation zones like the savanna grassland, Montana, Hether and Bamboo Forest. Along the hike through the forest you will see the Portal Peaks, Mt Baker, Wiseman and Mt Stanely on a clear day. During this experience you’ll see rivers, waterfalls and some animals like monkeys and non-Habituated Chimpanzees as well as some bird species and lastly Mahoma Glacial Lake. This hike is moderate (2561-3000M above sea level) and no technical hiking skills required. You’ll be ab sun screen, hats le to return to the hotel between 7-8:00PM. Approximate trip length 12hrs.
Don’t forget to take along hiking books, rain jackets, sun screen, hats and a backpack with some snacks.
RWENZORI MOUNTAIN LOWER RANGE DAY HIKE.
This hike starts with departure from the hotel at 8:00AM, drive towards Karugutu where you begin the hike from. The hike takes 6-8hours and the height between 1500-2000m above sea level.
TOORO BOTANICAL GARDENS.
The botanical garden is located just 800m from the hotel. Entrance fee is paid at the offices.
BIGODI SWAMP
Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, located near the town of Fort Portal in western Uganda, is a community-run eco-tourism initiative. It’s part of the Bigodi Wetland System, which encompasses both swamps and forests. The sanctuary offers guided nature walks where visitors can observe a variety of flora and fauna, including primates like colobus monkeys and baboons, as well as numerous bird species. The sanctuary is managed by the local community, which benefits from the tourism revenue while also promoting conservation efforts in the area.
